The John Whyte Club was founded in 1988 by the IBA secretary, Oscar Cavallera, under the IBA chairmanship of Umberto Caselli, in honour of Mr John Whyte, a well-known British bartender who became involved in training young people first, acknowledging the importance of technical/educational training as shared with professionals of all nationalities.

The association is involved in gathering together the best young bartenders from any part of the world, to make exchanges and comparisons between different work trends possible.
The JWC has a mission to fulfil in enhancing the figure of the bartender in accordance with IBA tradition, while promoting research and circulation of new ideas.

Under the philosophy of the association, the emphasis is on major social issues, sensitizing young professionals by focusing attention on world problems as dealt with by the JWC from year to year.
